Lucky?

Let's play a game called, "Lucky or Not?"

I'll start.

At 4:30 the morning of the 23rd, the day we were leaving for Long Island and Dan's parents', I woke up with the awful realization that our house had been skunked. Again. This was bad; there was enough skunk funk that we were both completely awake by about 5. What the hell? Is there a skunk mafia that doesn't want us going to NYC? (The last time we flew together, last February to NYC, everything we brought with us smelled like skunk as well. At least this time we had access to a washing machine when we got there.)

Overall, aside from any awkwardness caused by us having to launder and air out everything we came with, the Christmas visit was pretty good. I'll write more later, but I enjoyed his parents' company, had fun with my Grandmother, Uncle, and Aunt who we saw yesterday, plus we got to spend an afternoon with [livejournal.com profile] bats22 on Monday.

Today, we got back nice and early, started unpacking... and then I broke one of dan's Christmas presents. It was a brandy glass, one of a set of four, a present from his Mom. The present he was happiest about receiving, in fact. (When do we start getting lucky?) (Soon, I promise.) So, I did some quick searching, and the series of glasses was sold at Linens 'n Junk, but their website didn't carry the brandy glasses. But the local store claimed they had some and they would put aside a set for me. So I drove down to the "Sunrise Shopping Centre" (ugh) to pick them up. I stood in the returns line, talked to a sort of up-tight acting managerial-type customer service agent, who said one of his associates would find my glasses... who then said they didn't exist. So, he and I headed back to the stemware department, where there was a set of display glasses that were precisely like the one that I broke, but none below, and he couldn't find any in back, he was so sorry. I asked if I could just buy one. And he gave it to me.

Right now I feel pretty lucky. And foolish. And well, all-around thankful.
