quickie

We're back from NYC. The trip was super, travel was exhausting (of course), and... our power works again! The electrician diagnosed and fixed it in under an hour, leaving me to catch my (regular plus 30 minutes) bus with little problem.

What happened was: the bathroom upstairs has a big outlet box in a small space. So it wasn't too tricky for the live contact on the side of the outlet to touch the grounded metal of its recepticle, which tripped the breaker. The electrician showed me the burn marks on the outlet box and the recepticle. He sees that a lot, often caused by people unplugging vaccuum cleaners and pulling the plug to the side just a bit. (If that explanation makes sense; I'm trying to be brief!)

The solution was wrapping the contacts with electrical tape.

Recommendation for locals ([livejournal.com profile] lovecraftienne mainly): Conestogo Electric; $55/hr.
