...When did "sleeps" become a generally appropriate synonym for "nights?" Today I saw it on a sign for a Christmas pageant of all things. I don't know that I dislike it, but it seems overly trendy right now. ...OK, I decided: I don't like it, for that reason.

And the memory I put in my laptop two weeks ago seems to have an error. Today, otherwise stable apps have just started spontaneously crashing. Not happy. I expect I'll be able to get a swap on whichever stick it is, but it's still going to be a pain.

I remember "sleeps" being a synonym for "nights" in some MIT circles, but that's probably because a lot of people there were on weird sleep schedules.

Huh- that's surprising to me. I don't recall ever hearing it before the middle of this summer. I wonder if it just suddenly became *more* popular this summer.

In any case it might have validity on a Christmas Pageant sign. :)

Could be... I know my dad liked it, I'm pretty sure it's a holdover from his childhood too, so it's been around a while. :-)

Nope, not even close. Nobody on that side has served, going back at least to my great-grandfathers.

I heard it or "sleeping nights" often as a child, too, although pretty much only when talking to children.

It's a "kid" thing as far as I know.

The Muppet Christmas Carol is the Christmas Carol movie to watch if you're watching only one (though I do cringe a bit at the duet with Belle).

I watch it every year... and sometimes fastforward that duet :)
