You've woken up, showered, had breakfast. The day stretches in front of you, a cloudy, snowy Friday.

Oh, please don't kill me? I won't enjoy that. Thanks.

Oops! 9am meeting!
You kiss
Waiting at the bus stop is a man in a trench-coat.
[ strike up a conversation ]
[ wonder where the hell the bus is ]
[ try to figure out who the guy is without talking to him ]
[ strike up a conversation ]
"Good morning," you say to the man in the trenchcoat. Clearly, though, he's not a morning person. He looks up at you and grunts, then goes back to staring at his feet and scuffing at small piles of snow.
[ attempt to continue conversation ]
[ wait silently for the bus ]

no subject
He looks vaguely familiar, and after a long moment you realize that he's the University Ombudsman, whose car showed up on the roof of one of the buildings yesterday, placed there by some enthusiastic undergrads with too much free time. Apparently the facilities crew doesn't have it down yet. Better not get too close; he might be cranky.
The bus still hasn't arrived. If you left right now, you could walk and only be five or ten minutes late, if you walked briskly.
[start walking]
[continue to wait for the bus]
[dither]
[start walking]
[the bus immediately passes you, splashing you with its spray]
[the ombudsman calls you by name as you begin to stride away]
[half a block down the road, a little old woman asks you if you will be her valentine]
[ the bus immediately passes you, splashing you with its spray ]
Damn, now your left side is wet, and you might be late also.
If you run, maybe you can catch the bus at the next stop. Sure enough, traffic is slow enough that you reach the stop before the bus.
You climb onto the bus in relief.
... But that's weird:
[ the bus driver seems cheerful ]
[ everybody on the bus is dressed in tee-shirts and shorts and there is Hawaiian music ]
[ the Ombudsman, who caught the bus, smiles and signals to you to sit next to him ]
Re: [ the bus immediately passes you, splashing you with its spray ]
You've come across a secret Facebook party and everyone on the bus is dressed up for a luau. You:
[ take a seat beside the ukelele player, ask him to play tiny bubbles and serenade the bus ]
[ sit at the front of the bus and chat with the driver about crazy kids these days ]
[ shout Aloha to the crowd, strip down as much as you can and join in the festivities ]
Re: [take a seat beside the ukelele player, ask him to play tiny bubbles and serenade the bus]
[another person starts to pick up the harmony and someone else suggests the three of you start a band. You contemplate the suggestion]
[everyone looks dazed, including you, and the singing ukelele player grins fiendishly and keeps lulling you all into some sort of trance]
[the bus driver yells, "Keep it down! Can't ya see I'm trying to drive here!"]
(may I steal this for my own journal?)
[another person starts to pick up the harmony and someone else suggests the three of you start a ban
The applause and smiling faces give you the courage to spontaneously say, "You know, programming is boring. I quit. Want to go on tour?"
There are more smiles and even the bus driver joins in on the next song.
The bus doesn't stop again until you get to:
[ a car accident in the next block. ]
[ Toledo. ]
[ Honolulu. ]
[Honolulu]
You:
[Get off the bus]
[Spend some time wondering how the bus got across the Pacific without you noticing]
[Wait for the next stop]
[Wait for the next stop]
Suddenly, you notice everyone left on the bus is changing into:
[diving suits]
[space suits]
[three-piece suits]
