Portland, 3:05am EDT.
I'm writing this on the train from the airport, trying to stay awake so I don't miss my stop. I've been travelling 17 hours. I've been on five airplanes today. It took three of them to leave Detroit.
I was sitting with a woman in her 60s named BB. She claimed it isn't her fault. Yes, she had been *in* the Detroit airport since 10am, and it was then 6pm. Her first three flights were cancelled, bumped, and postponed, in that order. Then we went onto the same flight, which was supposed to leave at 2pm. Then we deplaned for maintenance problems. Then the plane that had just landed, to replace the first plane, had "paperwork holdup" which turned into a "visual check" which turned into another deplaning.
BB and I were sitting at gate A7 waiting for the third plane to be cleaned for us.
"Funny thing," she says. "My watch has stopped."
