where is the nearest rickshaw, anyway?

I'm going to Chicago tomorrow!

Via:

local bus to Greyhound to Porter shuttle bus to ferry to airplane to elevated subway to [livejournal.com profile] melted_snowball. Total time: 7 hours, I hope.

I wasn't able to integrate bicycle, rickshaw, or pony into the mix. Yet. We'll see about the return trip.

God I know trips like that. *hug* I'd take an 18 hour direct flight over than any day.

Enjoy your time with your boy.

Ha ha, this is especially amusing to me because I'm flying the "refined" urban airline from downtown Toronto. I'm *so* in a piker league compared with your trips.

I've never had a 18 hour direct flight, but so far (4 hours from leaving home) it's been milder than the equivalent length of direct flight- I've spent 90 minutes in the airport lounge, and they will feed us sandwiches on the plane.

I do wish I'd not left my laptop on the desk at home, 'cause my email backlog is going to be terrible when I get back!... And I don't have a US data plan for my phone. Wah wah wah! -D

If you are going into downtown Toronto, you have to be able to squeeze a rickshaw in there!! ;-)

Hm, I wonder if I could fit it in on the way back... -D

You should also be able to throw segway (http://citysegwaytours.com/) and horse drawn carriage (http://www.chicagotraveler.com/chicago-carriage-rides.htm) into that mix, if you're so inclined. Also, taxi and double decker bus. I would not suggest kayak (http://www.kayakchicago.com/), however.

That is absolutely awful. I love it!

OMG. I am sitting in the Porter lounge with tears coming out of my eyes trying not to spit my orange juice on the screen.

OMG.

(and remember, Service is for One Passenger Only.)

I find myself feeling the same way that I felt this afternoon at the Red Line L stop: "If I ask nicely and pay you, will you stop until my train arrives?"

"If I ask nicely and pay extra, do you promise to wear a shirt and normal pants?"

[identity profile] da-lj.livejournal.com 2009-12-05 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
& so far it's been too cold for both the former, but taxi might still happen. Conveniently, the weather has let me not get too accustomed to the warmer temps you've been having (until the day I got here), so when I go back I'll not need to get adjusted again. ;)

If I were here for more hours, I would suggest a meetup, 'cause why not, but that'll have to be a future trip! :)

6 vehicles sounds pretty low for flying to another city. But the Greyhound segment is unfortunate. For you flying from Pearson would be nicer.

(Anonymous) 2009-12-03 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, the greyhound segment wasn't bad. It was a known risk, in order to try out Porter. :) -Daniel

Have a blast!

On the dimmer side, I forgot my laptop.

On the brighter side, this lounge (Porter, downtown Toronto) is great. A dozen or more 24-inch iMacs, lots of comfy chairs, coffee and juice, etc.

On the worse side, I don't trust their mac security: they haven't updated the OS in quite a while, and it would be trivial for someone to put a keyboard sniffer in place.

But hey, free's free. and it's charging my phone for me. :)

Ahahahaha crap...I actually was really wanting to go to Chicago today and spend the weekend, and I didn't even know you were going to be there. The AmeriCorps team up in Chicago was doing THIS today. But, as noted in my email last night...NO TIME NO TIME NO TIME. :(
