Is it common for guys to be chatty in the showers? Women usually ignore each other. I'm unusual in being willing to shower in the open, instead of behind a curtain.

Wow, the fascinating life of those whose gender is different from mine...

Oh, in my experience, men usually ignore each other, unless they're there with their buddies, in which case they ignore you and talk loudly with each other. :)

This was the chattiest guy I've run into in a long time. At least since I swam at the pool (years ago) and there were lots of middle-aged and older guys who would strike up conversations with anybody. Usually that's OK; there's a sense of decorum involved, somehow.

This guy was also out of the ordinary for not closing his shower-curtain, shaving in the shower (which I'm told is a hygiene faux pas, not that I really care, there are drains after all), ... and leaving his stuff all over the bench in the locker room (such that there wasn't room for me to sit; eventually, I asked if he minded if I borrowed some of his bench.)

...you know, I was going to end it there, and realized that "ignoring each other" isn't the right way to put it in the Men's change room- there's a subtle "sizing each other up" that is slightly different from ignoring, but only slightly. Like, you're supposed to acknowledge people whose lockers are next to yours, make room for them, but not be overly paying attention to them.

*shrug* Like I know the rules anyway. :)

Huh. This is a pretty good description of how women usually act in locker rooms. "Ignore each other" is not quite right, either. Occasionally there is conversation. But mostly we just pretend that we are the only naked person in the room. But leaving things all over the bench so there is no room for the other person is definitely rude.

(I was a member of a British gym that had co-ed showers before going in the pool. I found this quite odd, even though everyone showered in their bathing suits/swimming costumes.)

I'm dizzy now. Thanks. =P

Monstrously so. I wonder if part of why it's so disorienting is that I've played so much tetris that my brain expects different results.

I'm feeling a little woozy.
