Neat Map

US Religions, mapped by county. If I'm to take one thing from it, though I expected it for the Mormons, I'm surprised at how clumped the Baptists and Lutherens are.

...That one high-density concentration of Mennonites in upstate NY? That's where my folks are. I'm sure there would be a similar blob where I live now, if the map didn't halt at the border.

I'm perplexed by the high density of Quakers in southeastern Colorado. I suppose the overall person density is just low (based on a look at google maps), and there might be a few Evangelical Friends churches in the area. It's too far East for Colorado Springs, I think. The Alaska Quaker blob isn't a surprise; there's a largely-Innuit Yearly Meeting up there.

The Colorado Quakers seem to be a change, from 1990 to 2000, according to this other survey which used the same source, but 1990 data.

That's a really cool website!

...and the clump of Mennonites in southern PA is where I'm from. :-)

Way too far east for Colorado Springs. We're talking plains, ranching, farming, etc. Burlington is the biggest city near that area, I think. I've never been there.

True. What I should've said was if I'm locating the Quaker meeting/church, it's theoretically possible a number of people live waaay to the east and commute into the city for services. But that distance makes it unlikely, as we agree. :)

No dice finding a Quaker meeting in Burlington. Still a mystery. :)

Holy no people, Batman. Kiowa County has fewer people than square miles. So 6% of the population would be 80 people.

[Though I still do wonder who the hell these folks are...]

I guess that could be half a church?

Weird.

Hmm, interesting. Muslims are better distributed than I had expected. I wonder if something similar is online for Canada?...
