Today was better than yesterday.

A funny thing about yesterday... I went to my first staff meeting in my new department. I contributed, ever so slightly, to a conversation about deferring migrations to Windows Vista. My supervisor complemented my work to the department chair. In the mood I was in yesterday, I wasn't able to focus on this at all. Today, remembering it has been bringing my spirits up. Funny thing, brains.

I'm liking the Windows ergonomic-reminder program that [livejournal.com profile] mynatt pointed me at (workrave). It's got a good interface, and it's very flexible. Best of all, I'm getting up to stretch every 20 minutes, as I should be.

I made plans for tomorrow night. Socializing is good. ...I'd like to find something to do Saturday. Ideas anyone? I know of errands I should do, such as buying jeans at the outlet mall. But that's boring.

Last night I watched the first half of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead- I looking forward to finishing it tonight, if I have the energy. I went to sleep at 10:30 yesterday, and was so zonked I missed [livejournal.com profile] melted_snowball calling around 11. I didn't even have earplugs in. I was tired. Come to think of it, I still am.

I've just remembered to start downloading the first bit of Doctor Who Season 3, whose second episode just aired in the UK. I'm looking forward to watching those, whenever they finish cooking.

Did you happen to catch Torchwood? It's a companion series and the first season (all 13 episodes) have aired in the UK. Very good and wonderfully dark television.

Thanks for the recommendation. It does look good.

Saturday, eh? I hear there's this place called The Brick Brewery, and they do something called a "Tasting Tour" for two dollars every Saturday. With a bit of convincing, you might be able to compel me to go.

Hmmmm... That's worth considering. I'm not leaning toward getting shlightly shloshed mid-afternoon, but a few drinks might be fun. I'll make a post if I decide that's my plan.

Workrave looks fascinating. I am just not geeky enough to take the source code and make it work on my Mac tho. poo.

Glad to hear there was something good to remember about yesterday for you. :-)

Oh.. and if you haven't seen the movie "The Lives of Others" it's highly worthwhile. We went to see it tonight with a friend of ours who was raised in East Germany. Very intense. Very good.

Yeah, I spent a bit of time googling to see if anyone had attempted a workrave port to mac, but no such luck. I know just enough to know I don't know enough to do it myself. :/

Lives of Others- thanks for the recommendation; I've put it on the "watch sooner or later" list. ...In your opinion, is it a "must see on big screen" film?

[identity profile] fyddlestyx.livejournal.com 2007-04-13 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Bummer re workwave on the Mac.

Regarding "The Lives of Others"... well in my opinion there are only a few films that are worthy of watching on the big screen (can you tell I don't go to the theater that much?).. Any of the Star Wars, or Star Trek or fancy special effects movies. Other than that.. I'd say if you want to wait till it's on dvd.. it's still a movie to watch!

Cool. Thanks. I'm the same way with movies. I'm just as happy not having to sit in a theatre, unless it's *wow* awesome.

One movie that was surprisingly better on a big screen was Little Miss Sunshine. I don't know if it was edited differently, but there were little jokes that were more obvious on the big screen because they only showed up in a small part of the screen. Like the flashing ads on the TV in the hospital.. Which were really inappropriate to be showing in a room where people were trying to grieve...

I think I'll probably go see it this afternoon, actually...

Huh. If I'm not doing anything at 4:30, I might see it at the Princess. ...Otherwise it gets added to That List. ;)
