I've dropped dan off at YYZ, filled up on gas, and I'm back home.

While I don't like making a habit of getting up at 5:30, occasionally it's a good thing. I like the feeling of empty highways, and of fog burning off (eventually).

Though I wish I wasn't so muzzy-headed now, just three hours after getting up. Hopefully a bike to Quaker Meeting will wake me up more.

Happy Sunday.

Last night [livejournal.com profile] melted_snowball, [livejournal.com profile] metalana and I saw a huge collection of friendly folk at [livejournal.com profile] lovecraftienne & [livejournal.com profile] aleriel's place, a combination birthday party for those two and for [livejournal.com profile] joymoose, as well as a housewarming. And by "huge" I mean, "approximately four times fire-code allowances for the entire floor". OK, kidding, it wasn't that huge. But as a brief example: the kitchen was so occupied with foodstuffs and people working on stuffs, that [livejournal.com profile] kourtneyshort had to perform a three-person juggling act to cut the cake she had made and brought. The process: she, with knife in one hand and cake balanced in the other; Mysterious Guy X who we roped into holding plates as they got filled with cake, and myself, fetching cutlery, adding them to plates, catching the slices on said plates as they fell from the cake, and helping to distribute the plates into the crowd. We'll call that piece, "Six hands, one cake, zero piano table".

[livejournal.com profile] mtffm (& ?) brought a tasty peanut-butter merengue merangue pie [*] , which thankfully was less juggled, since that would've flattened the merangue. [livejournal.com profile] joymoose's virgin sangria (that is to say, the first time she made sangria; not fruit, juice, and... more juice) was also concocted and drunk up, as were tons of other birthday-type stuff. And beers. Did I mention all those people?

I had fun chatting with [livejournal.com profile] catbear about his own Canadian non-married sponsorship; dan's and mine had been a topic of conversation with [livejournal.com profile] metalana mere hours earlier. I met a few new people, who I might recognize again, but I certainly don't remember names; though I certainly do remember meeting [livejournal.com profile] parallelgirl ftf, as she's visiting from the UK.

d. and I left early, as he had a plane to catch early this morning, but I'm reasonably confident that birthday wishes were properly bestowed. Happy b'day [livejournal.com profile] joymoose, [livejournal.com profile] lovecraftienne & [livejournal.com profile] aleriel! Thanks for the party!

This morning in Quaker Meeting, two people spoke about grief and grieving. In the silence, my mind was transported back five or so years, to a particular Meeting for Worship, held by Friends for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Concerns. Someone who was beloved by that community, and who has since died of cancer, sang out of the silence, Morning Has Broken.

Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for the springing fresh from the Word

Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall, on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where her feet pass

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day.
