While d. clothes-shopped, I wandered and took photos. I've really got no idea where all I wound up- at least as far west as Rittenhouse Square, north to JFK Blvd, through some wonderful Art Deco buildings, East through Macy's (which has quite the pipe organ, and I'm sure there's a story there), a few adventures involving homeless people that I may have the oomph to write up separately; further East to 8th St. or so, South to Spruce Street or so, through the cute little streets in the gayborhood, and back to the hotel.
Lunch was with our dear friends Carrie and Kathleen at a Vietnamese restaurant a bit to the east; collecting our friend Karen, and chatting with her over gelato at Capogiro (which got multi-recommendations from y'all, thanks! Good stuff.)
We wandered to the Kimmel theater to see if there were Wicked tickets for this weekend, but there were only obstructed view, so we passed. Back to the room for a long nap, then dinner at Samson Street Oyster House, for awesome seafood. d. had chowder and crab cakes, I had half a dozen Long Island Oysters and a seafood pot pie. Yum. It could've been a much less calm dinner, if they hadn't put us back in the quiet room. I'm glad the front was full. As it was, we had some good conversation about family and friends, which I may be able to turn into a post, sooner or later. The waitress was a trip- chatty, with good recommendations on all sorts of things. (If you go to Paris, visit vacationinparis.com for $140US/night lodging. Not like I'm going to go to Paris any time soon though.)
Tomorrow:
Architecture Tour of the Kimmel theater at 10:30am.
1pm I'm meeting
boutell for coffee.
There's a Dog Carnivale at Rittenhouse Square.
Rosenach Library, with an eclectic collection including Lewis Carol letters, Maurice Sendack sketches, James Joyce's manuscript for Ulysses, William Blake notes, Bram Stoker's outlines for Dracula, etc.
At least one meal at Reading Terminal Market.
More wandering. More photos.
