What should (or could) this room be called?

Before I worked at the university, I worked in this room. Now, I don't much, though it's where I do household filing, bill-paying, computer stuff, hobby stuff, some reading, and playing with the pooch (and d.)

It has: a desk, file drawers, files, computer equipment, my books (those which by mutual consent aren't in the shared rooms of the house- my science-fiction (as opposed to d's science-fiction), computer books, howto books, and so on), CDs, a stereo, a bit of hobby equipment, and miscellaneous storage in the closets.

There's one office chair, and I've been meaning to add an armchair as well.

The question arises because d. and I have different names for the room, and according to one of us, only one of them is correct. ;) This of this poll as along the lines of [livejournal.com profile] frankie_ecap's domestic strife polls. :)

What do the percentages in the bar chart represent? We have 75%, 50%, 25%, and 25%.

I picked choices that reflect names I would be inclined to use for such a room. It sounds like the optimal thing to do might be to paint it purple and green and call it Barney's room, though there may be other resolutions I've not considered as seriously (like calling it the boo-dwah because every civilised home should have a boo-dwah).

To be fair to [livejournal.com profile] rhythmaning, I have only had one domestic strife poll.

And he has now magnificently redeemed himself, and I am about to post about that.

This is an utterly unfair poll without telling us what you want the answer to be. I would never do that.

The percentages are what fraction of the respondants chose that checkbox, since you can tick more than one of them.

Painting it: has been considered. Barney colours: has not been considered. Well, I suppose strictly speaking, now it has, but then I'd have to call it the eggplant room, and I'd never go into it again.

Boo'dwah: fits dan's room upstairs a bit more, since I don't even have a fainting couch, let alone a bit of bedding.

...Oh but wait, according to the dictionary, boudoir can be a bed room or private room. Literally, "sulking place". Huh. That would be my choice if I liked to sulk.

We had a room like that in the old apartment...we just called it the Back room.

Ah, the vagaries of life.

I've put in my responses, which I suppose I could've without tipping the results, since I don't mind any particular names for an object as long as the people involved know what they're talking about. (I think I once wrote about armchairs, sofas and loveseats; though of course I can't find it now. Summary: I call every one of those things a sofa, and d. corrects me every time, bless him.)

If you're going to call it that (I peeked at the answers) consistently, you should insist on one of these and one of these. And maybe one of these. Er, I mean these.

If you know what you think the right answer is, why have a poll? Surely the point of the poll is to use the wisdom of crowds to find the answer.

That is, of course, if you believe that crowds are wise.

...if you choose your crowd properly.

Also, crowds are apparently good at madding.

Yup! And you can change your answers- click on the poll, click on "[fill out poll]" at the top, and you're set. :)

I was very happy when someone told me that at one point; I often change my mind after thinking about a poll...
