We live two doors down from a residence for wayward youth and the only thing we've had stolen from our property in the past 16 months is gr1's boyfriend's bicycle, which was at the side of the house not locked up one day this summer (might have been Canada Day) when nobody was at home for hours. It was a crappy bike, but it was easy to make off with. It may be the regular presence of police in the area and our tendency to actually greet people on the street give us a measure of protection.
Now I'm wondering if replacing our squeaky, hard to open garage door next spring is a good idea. I suppose we could replace it with something just as noisy.
