Hasidic pop singers

So, I was listening to "American Top 40" on "Zee-103.5" (Yes, it's a Canadian radio station and no I don't know why it isn't Zed-103.5. Probably for the same reason that they play American Top 40. Yes, it's mostly crap pop music, but some of it amuses me.) Like, say, this.

Matisyahu is a Hasidic reggae singer from Crown Heights NYC (you know, close to the Hassid neighbourhood that birthed Curley Oxide, the Hassidic punk singer. OK, maybe you don't know. OK, here).

Anyway, Matisyahu is sort of catchy. He's also at the top of Billboard charts. I hope he continues doing well.

ha ha. Nope, I didn't. I will, though.

You're gonna insist he isn't catchy, he's annoying, aren't you? ;)

Ah well, no accounting. :)

I'm curious what was said by/about him in the CNN broadcast though; I could see it being a vacuous interview.

He just sounded like a tedious 20-something celebrity, if I remember right (that was several hotel rooms ago. Lots of "like" and "you know", and lots of playing up his own fame. *shrug*

Nice photo, btw. Didn't realize you were showing what you actually look like...

Thanks. I should get the original from C&J...

I wasn't /not/ showing what I looked like for any particular reason, and I decided I felt like a new picture.

He was at the the Moe Down I went to last year. Aaron saw him qnd swears it was a remarkable show, but I just couldn't wrap my head around the idea of a Hasidic reggae. Or for that matter, a Hasidic reggae performer at a rock concert.

At this point, I'd go see him if I were already there, from curiosity.

I liked the music video on his website, at least.
