This was a super weekend. We were at Wilbur Hot Springs, 90 minutes to the northwest of Davis. Dan discovered the place when he was taken by [livejournal.com profile] ancawonka this spring, and I'm happy to say it's as good as he described. Lots of hot sulfurous water, some cold water, tons of deer, smiling naked people of all sorts, beautiful canyons and hills, and hiking. It's well-organized and not like any "spa" I've heard of elsewhere; all food is provided by the guests (except for dry spices and water). They have a 18-burner stove, lots of counter-space, and a reasonable set of kitchen-tools. The place is off-grid, with solar powered lights and no electrical outlets to be seen.

Dan cooked for us, and I did most of the cleaning. We brought four full bags of food, and brought back 2 and a half, less than I expected...

On a hike yesterday we discovered some wonderful ruined smelting equipment, and a bizarre tumbledown structure whose purpose I can't imagine. I don't have my camera-cable with me but I'll post pics when I get back home.

Another discovery: I actually enjoy going from hot-tub to 70-degree water, much to my surprise. The feeling coming out of the cold water is... tough to describe in a meaningful way that doesn't sound painful. Well, it was, but in a good way. y'know?

Over the weekend, I slowed down some, though we were hiking along at a fairly fast clip, and I didn't feel terrifically different while in the hot springs. They were super-relaxing; but I don't think the meditative state was any better than I get on dry land. Different, because I could feel my heart working and my breath was a bit more forced, but it (also) wasn't painful in a bad way.

Hm, I don't feel I'm describing this very well. But we both enjoyed ourselves, and each others' company, and I'm glad I have another day here with d. before I fly home tomorrow evening.
