In addition to the "must wake up enough to whiz" effect of a few beers, alcoholic beverages tend to be dehydrating. I find building a base level of hydration for a few days before anything that I know will me feeling low on oil works much better than non-diuretic drinks in the few hours before the flight (or party or phase of the moon).

You probably shouldn't take advice from someone who drinks hot tisanes and teas on miserably sticky days to cool down.
