note to self

pandora.com was good to me this evening. I was trying to concentrate on some programming gunk, and it gave me just the sort of music I wanted. (since it's pandora, I can tell you exactly what that was, but I won't, cause that's not what this post is about).

This piece in particular is great. I'd never heard of Assemblage 23 outside of pandora, but I've liked at least some of each piece I've heard. This one has lyrics I can get behind. At risk of sounding like a fanboy, I paste them here with the hopes that at some point when I need it, I'll remember:

Be still
Though chaos rains around you now
Only so much rain can fall at once
Breathe in
And let the air envelope you
And slow but sure, serenity will come

(Chorus)
Close your eyes
Try to breathe
Feel the ground beneath your feet
It's still there
The world still turns around

Fanboy!

They're in iTunes, you know...

in fact I did. The next-to-last thing I did before going to bed was buying this album.

'night. :)

Assemblage 23 has some very nice stuff. I've been listening to them for a while now.

You liked Assemblage23? Here are a few more names to consider, then...

VNV Nation
Melotron (German band)
Welle: Erdball (another German band)
Ivory Frequency

Have fun!

Hm, thanks. I think I haven't heard the last two at all (I've been a VNV Nation fan for a while; and I recognize melotron by name, at least). I'll track 'em down!

'Cause sometimes, german industrial (and german-sounding industrial) is just what the doctor called for.

I like Assemblage23's Depeche Mode influences.

I may have mentioned this story before; I'm not sure. Back in my first year of University, I actually got to talking to the Assemblage 23 guy. We were both just starting out working on music and sent each other demo tapes. I think I still have his around somewhere. He wrote back that he liked mine a lot.

Since there, I set aside music for years and he did not and I'm glad that his dedication is really working well. :)

Wow. I'm impressed. :)

I should rip it to mp3 sometime. I know a bunch of people on my friends list are fans.

Hey- I just came across this post. I was recently on an Assemblage 23 kick and I was really tickled to notice/remember your comment.

I don't suppose you'd be in a position to rip his demo tape to mp3? I know you're reinstalling all of your extra apps, but... it might be a good test of whatever hardware/software you reinstalled to transfer from tape, perhaps? (*heh*)

*hehe* It might be. I'll have to find it first!

Heh. I know that feeling well. ;)

But thanks, in advance, for whenever it turns up, if indeed it does. :)
