happiness

Happiness is: trying to figure out what sort of soup to make, and discovering I do have Matzo Meal in the cupbord.

Yay for Matzo Ball chicken soup, veggies, and a glass of red wine.

Happiness is also discovering how well Skype can deal with the distance from here to Barcelona, once I got rid of the stupid echo by plugging in headphones. Go skype. It was great to talk to my sweetie before he leaves for Russia in the morning.

And yea, I am jealous of that itinery, why do you ask? ;)

How does Skype compare with say, iChat in either audio or video mode?

Dunno. I've never used video/audio ichat.

I'd be happy to give it a shot.

...starts ichat... notices dpolicar is on my AIM buddy list...

(i'm daatcoderdotcom, in case you are around right now. No promise I'll be around later, since I've got a long day tomorrow...)

And the answer, at least for this evening, is that ichat didn't cooperate in the slightest, either video or audio. Ah well. we'll try some other time.

Yeah, it's a little finicky indeed.

There's an article at Apple's site (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93208) talking about all the ports that need to be open for it to work. I never finished dealing with it because between finding out that I could turn on UPnP on my router and let iChat deal with it and that in some situations the only thing that will work is to tell my mac to only use airport and not the ethernet, I covered most of the situations. I suppose this will change when I go to Brazil later this month -- I'm bringing my Dad a Mac Mini with iSight and I'm kind of counting on iChat to work, I wanna be able to "see" my family more than once a year.

In the mean time, I'm having lots of fun with the camera and friends who live far (or even not so far). I love when technology makes things better and cheaper at the same time. ;-)
