da: A smiling human with short hair, head tilted a bit to the right. It's black and white with a neutral background. You can't tell if the white in the hair is due to lighting, or maybe it's white hair! (Default)

I'm sure I'm not the first to say so, but: the English language never seems quite so much like it's made entirely of borrowed words, as it does when I'm playing Scrabble and all the words I can think of are not valid English words. Valid words, yes. But not in the dictionary.

Final score: [livejournal.com profile] melted_snowball 344, [livejournal.com profile] da_lj 223. I remember the last time I won a Scrabble game... it didn't involve [livejournal.com profile] melted_snowball ;-)

The thing that was most funny was the number of different languages he was going to work from, as well.

Hmm. In retrospect, it appears that "hajj" is good according to the online dictionary.

Always play with an OED; it's your friend when playing Sdrabble. How eles so you validate words like qhat, qho, and qhom?

It's also your friend when plating Scrabble. That's what i get for trying to type with a qwerty keyboard.

Those are archaic spellings for who, what, and whom, 16th-century, if i recall. Qat and qaph are rather limiting, if useful, q-without-u words.

You should play against me. I'm absolutely useless at Scrabble. :)
