10:40am, BUF. waiting for them to call our flight (8 minutes late).

The drive to the airport was more exciting than I'd have preferred.

First, coming out of town, a cube van for some local company cut in front of me, and fortunately I had anticipated them doing it. But as we both got onto the 401 I watched them zoom from the left lane to the right and back to the left in the space of 5 seconds, with no signals. Really the worst highway driving I'd seen in ages. When a few minutes later they were clearly up to 150kph and still driving as erratically, I screwed up my nerve and called 911 on them. Hyah. "Thanks for calling and Drive Safe!" Um, that should be, "Safely." But I didn't tell the OPP that.

On the QEW, the vanes for a wind turbine passed by in the other direction, one by one. I'd guess each one was at least 40m, 10m longer than the flatbed carrying it. Each one looked a bit like a stretched metal whale.

The scary one: outside Buffalo, I was in the exit lane for Rt. 90 from Rt. 290, and this junky chrysler zipped INTO my lane across the divider. They were bound to clip the barrier, or hit ME, and I used my brakes, hard (rather than swerving into the other lane of the exit, which was full). The car behind me avoided slamming into me as well, though I heard their brakes in addition to my own. I only got a glance, but the guy in back of me wound up stopped in the empty divider area, slightly at an angle. I hope they were OK, but I didn't see how I could do anything, since traffic was still moving at speed, and we both did more or less exactly what we should've, or could've to avoid hitting each other.

I'm glad the road wasn't at all wet, and the driver in back of me was able to steer off to the side instead of into me. I've got no idea what happened to the idiot in front of me, but I hope they never do that again.

The border crossing was smooth, and the airport is a but crowded but OK. A bit slow through security, but I had more than enough time to write this just now ...A girl ahead of me in line was singing "Rainbow Connection" and now I'm humming it too.

2h 15m, assuming good traffic and border-crossing.

That's a pretty long drive, actually. I guess in this case I'm supposed to ignore the difference in cost and spend Your Tax Dollars. Sheesh. At least my accommodations in NC will be free...

Yup, it's a bit long. ...After the first 5 or 8 times, though, it becomes old hat. :/

Still, d. had the good point, the last time we flew there, that it's a big enough airport to be useful, but small enough that it's durn easy to get through without being a real pain.

I'd take YYZ too, if YTD were paying for me, as well.

Oh wait. They are, one removed. Hm.
