I just found this tax-rate calculator, which does a splendid job of answering my question of how much taxes are charged on capital gains. Canuckistan-only.

...and for those of you in the US, this was entertaining: when you need something to arrive really ASAP? Answer: UPS SonicAir. The claim is same-day guaranteed delivery, complete with quotes and various options depending on how you want it sent. I had fun pricing a package from, say, my parents in Upstate NY to my uncle's on Long Island (about $500; 10 hours guaranteed). My parents to Ithaca: they apparently put it in a truck and drive, 5 hours door-to-door, $425 or so. Ithaca to San Francisco today? $400, 19 hours. Not bad.

The SonicAir service gets used by a lot of computer systems vendors; if someone has a 24x7, 4 hour response contract and a part breaks at 0200...they will get the replacement there.

(Optimization: put the parts warehouse at Louisville International Airport (SDF); that's UPS's hub.)

yowza. "The facility is currently the size of 80 football fields and capable of handling 84 packages a second, or 304,000 per hour. With its 18,000 employees, UPS is currently the largest single employer in the state of Kentucky." - wp
