So this isn't completely out-of-the-blue, the back story:

Ya lives, ya learns. I always thought Piet Mondrian went by his French name, not the original Dutch. His first name is pronounced Pete, according to all sources I've found. Colour me under-educated, I suppose. [Even worse, I misspelled Mondrian! For shame. Sigh.]

In Canadian English, "decal" ends in "-kl" not "-kal" as it seems to elsewhere. This didn't come up in the five years we've lived here, until yesterday at the parking office. I was... a bit surprised. It was clear what she meant, and I didn't laugh at her "mispronunciation", but I was surprised when I looked it up and found out this is one of those things that's different here.

Anyhow, I was amused. :)

I use locale pronunication.

And I never thought about it, but I think I pronounce Piet as Pee-ette. (So, neither!)

Oh, good. I was starting to think I was the only one.

I always thought of it as Pee-ette myself. Although my favorite Piet isn't Mondrian, it's Hein -- the guy who came up with the superellipse and the soma cube and some fun logic games.

I'm another pee-ette.

and decal can't rhyme with locale because decal has the stress on the first syllable and locale has the the stress on the 2nd, plus that pesky "ee" in decal and "oh" in locale don't rhyme at all.
But yes, they do both end in "Al".

-cal! Not just -al! (That makes all the difference. Or perhaps not.)

OK, fine, *you* find a word the rhymes with decal. ;)

Shmeecal doesn't count.

That was exactly my thought.
