[Poll #909345]
So this isn't completely out-of-the-blue, the back story:
Ya lives, ya learns. I always thought Piet Mondrian went by his French name, not the original Dutch. His first name is pronounced Pete, according to all sources I've found. Colour me under-educated, I suppose. [Even worse, I misspelled Mondrian! For shame. Sigh.]
In Canadian English, "decal" ends in "-kl" not "-kal" as it seems to elsewhere. This didn't come up in the five years we've lived here, until yesterday at the parking office. I was... a bit surprised. It was clear what she meant, and I didn't laugh at her "mispronunciation", but I was surprised when I looked it up and found out this is one of those things that's different here.
Anyhow, I was amused. :)

Date: Friday, 19 January 2007 05:43 am (UTC)and decal can't rhyme with locale because decal has the stress on the first syllable and locale has the the stress on the 2nd, plus that pesky "ee" in decal and "oh" in locale don't rhyme at all.
But yes, they do both end in "Al".
