I'm just stymied. They are clearly for something, as they have cloth things tied around the top, and they haven't bothered pulling them down. They're right next to a gymnasium; dan thought they might be for football practice, but that seems deeply wrong.
Drying racks for sweaty protective-wear?... torture?... I'm stymied.
My first thought was football practice as well- I've seen practice equipment that looks slightly like those... add in the right amount of padding, and you have something for people to practice running into.
Yea- I think you're right. If they're the skeleton of something with a heckovalot of padding... that might make sense.
But I thought those things were usually movable (on things like runners, so you'd hit it and move it a few inches)... That's what I learned from the movies, anyway. ;)
Clearly, I wasn't wandering out the parts of campus that you were wandering around. I never saw these things (whatever they are). When I first saw the picture, before reading your statement that they were near the gym, I was wondering if they were used to create a support for growing plants or something.
Speaking of walks around the campus, it had some terrific little trails. Did you take the one toward the field house, but then take a left onto the path behind the camping area, instead of continuing on to the field house?
I didn't go around behind the camping area- I would've walked around that area more on Friday evening, but the mosquitos were eating me alive!
The only other path I took was through some low grass in the flood plain, trying to get shots of some bunnies running around.
As for whatever this thing is: if you walked to the field-house, you probably came close to these things. These were near the field-house buildings; the outdoor bleachers are off the shot on the left, and one of the sides of the field-house complex is a bit off to the right.
It was slightly tricky to get shots without karma shave signs in them. *sigh*
