Backward:
This weekend's high points:
Saturday I went to the mall for clothes-shopping. I didn't find clothes, but I have a good excuse: I ran into our
old neighbours Lesley and David. We were so bummed when they moved to Toronto, but they are in the process of moving back into town, hurrah hurrah! So I spent an hour and a half sitting and chatting. I'm trying to convince them they want to be our
backyard neighbours. That would be so great.
I told Lesley that what's-her-name says Dumbledore was gay; and she launched into a probable explanation involving the last book and his relationship with a big bad guy. Heh. Can you tell I haven't read the last book? (Yeah. I might still, since I've read the others, although my reading list seems to be growing not shrinking...)
Their son A. (13) introduced me to
Thrills Gum in a sneaky way; he just plunked a handful down on the table while I was talking with David. A. made motions like I should try some, so I did, while we were talking; after I put it in my mouth David said, "you know, it tastes like soap." Um. Actually, it did taste like soap. Apparently you can buy this gum at Seven-11 stores in a bag (which says "Thrills Gum. It tastes like soap.") or you can buy it from a gum machine at this mall, where it doesn't say anything at all- you get to be surprised. What can I say, I was surprised. Blech- it tastes like soap.
Saturday evening d. and I watched
Say Anything, which I picked up for $10 at the local drugstore last week. What a wonderful movie.
Sunday I went to Quaker Meeting and monthly Business Meeting. I volunteered for two things I've not done before. The first is being on a Clearness Committee for Marriage (which helps a couple figure out if there are any problems they haven't considered; one of the ways that Quakers try to care for their community). This should be fun. The second is being the official representative at a regional meeting next Sunday in Sparta, near Lake Erie, which is also site of one of very few historic Friends Meetinghouses still standing in Canada (this one's from the 1860s). I'm hopeful that it will be fun, and also interesting.
Foreward:
While dan's away at a conference in Germany this week, it seems I have planned a fairly busy week.
This evening I'm taking d. to Pearson.
Tomorrow I have a friend-without-LJ (Michael) coming over for dinner, which I'm quite looking forward to.
Thursday night I'm going to
photo class at
catbear's (topic: "Telling a Story").
Friday night: movies with folks.
Saturday: Saturday's unplanned. So far.
Sunday: spending the entire day with Quakers, many who I won't know; and when I get back, giving
melted_snowball a rousing welcome home from Germany.
