Things we didn't teach our dog

We never taught roverthedog that when I go for my wallet, she's getting a walk. (In contrast, she ignores my ipod: sometimes she gets a walk, sometimes I'm washing dishes.)

We certainly never taught her that when we're sitting on the couch with her, if we yawn or stretch, she must get off the couch. She's fine-tuned: when I put down the paper, before I even start stretching, she'll wake up and hop down. It seems that when we yawn or stretch at other times, she pays no attention: it isn't that she thinks a yawn/stretch are a sign she's doing something wrong. And sometimes even a small yawn will get her off the couch. (Then she comes back and puts her head on the cushion and looks up at me until I pat the back of her head and she jumps back up.)

Are your keys attached to the wallet? Its the sound cue that tells me chickenfeet2003 is going for a walk.

Nope, they aren't. The keys are usually by the door, and roverthedog seems to be ready before we've left my study. :)

I just did a test. I stood up, put my wallet in my pocket, and she immediately sat and looked imploringly at me.

I suppose I should try putting other random things from my study into my pocket, on other occasions. And my wallet while sitting down. Maybe tomorrow. :)

We didn't intend to teach Sam that telling him 'go pee' when we go outside means when we come inside he should walk into his crate and wait for a treat.

We still need to arrange a puppy playdate :-)
