Storm rolling in

Storm rolling in

I stood outside the Sobeys and watched the heavy clouds cross the sky in just about five minutes, and then we had a few minutes before the heavy rain and lightning started!

I tried to stitch together a panorama just today, with highly questionable results. You'd think that someone in my research area would have recognized the importance of shooting from a single centre of projection. As it happens, I was trying to capture a long wall by walking along it. It's mostly OK, but pretty glitchy.

Huh... Next time's the charm, I guess?...

This one was with the camera's built-in software- I was thinking I should find myself some external software to do the stitching, because it seems to produce photos with a resolution 1/3 the regular photo size.

That was an amazingly quick change. I was driving home from further west. The sky to my left was one black mass, and to my right it was quite washed-out blue. When I walked into my apartment building it seemed well past dusk, but still quite light on my balcony on the far side. Then the darkness flew across the sky.

Over here the wind couldn't decide which way to blow. For a while it kept switching back and forth and pushing the rain off to a 45 degree angle. The lightning was impressive, especially the cloud to cloud strikes.

That's awesome! I remember seeing fronts like that when I was a kid back in IL.

Meanwhile, we had a hurricane in FL today, but it turned east instead; I don't think we even got a sprinkle of rain, though now the wind has kicked up a teensy bit, so maybe we'll get some rain out of it, at least. A whole day off work for nothing.

Yeah, the paper had photos of people leaving the Fl. Keys yesterday...

You're complaining about a day off work?

I still had work to do. It just made it harder to get it done. And made today completely insane. Ugh.

Oddly enough, it was much less intense than either of the two big flooding events we had in July and early August.

But yes, it was a good storm. :)
