Psychology of the Daniel, or, Observing him in his Natural Habitat

I think that living alone for the first time in a decade, the scariest thing is the yawning gulf of free time. Especially if, like me, you're not a social butterfly. (For those who've talked with me about hanging out- just because I haven't taken you up yet doesn't mean I won't, and I really do appreciate the offers!) This week went reasonably well, only slightly more social than I'd consider ideal. I only stayed late at work once, and had home-cooked food six of seven nights. The exception was last night, when I didn't actually eat out, but I brought home a sub after working late. On the basis of almost two weeks data, I think I can do this cooking-for-myself thing, since I don't mind leftovers. (especially last week's leftover squash ravioli with sage-butter sauce... Mmm.) I haven't tried out the slow-cooker yet, given us as a Christmas present a year ago, which neither d. nor I have used; perhaps this weekend.
Last night over IRC I helped fish on a project he's presenting to our Perl Mongers group next week. After we both said goodnight, I kept working, because it was fun programming. But I'm stubborn about letting go of a problem until I've solved it, especially if I'm stymied by something I think should be easy. So I was up a bit too late. Sigh.
Social engagements-wise, this week featured two Quaker committee meetings in the evening, on Wednesday and Thursday. This month was a fluke; hopefully they will be in different weeks from now on. They were both good meetings, in both the 'useful' and the 'enjoyable' senses. I enjoyed myself enough on Thursday to agree to dinner and a movie with some of the folks from Meeting this evening. (We're seeing the Cannes commercial festival, at The Princess at 7pm, in case you're interested in joining us- I might be up for drinks after...)
So, maybe this is my natural habitat. Spending probably too much time in front of my computer, but some time outside and with the dog, and being social at odd intervals. I miss
melted_snowball. Hopefully I can figure out how to visit him soon-- there may be a prospect for fixing that, with a fair number of details to work out still.
