I think Environment Canada gets it right, in this Wather Advisory issued this morning:
Roller coaster weather continues across southern Ontario. Unseasonably mild air today will give way to a developing texan low pressure area with snow beginning tonight. [...] The snow will likely begin this evening across regions near Lake Huron and quickly spread eastwards reaching regions just north of Toronto by midnight. Snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 centimetres appears likely by Saturday morning but some areas may exceed 15 especially over the higher terrain above the Niagara Escarpment and the Dundalk Highlands. A period of freezing rain is also possible mainly from southern Lake Huron to just north of Toronto. The precipitation is expected to fall as mainly rain over Toronto and southwest but changing to brief wet snow Saturday morning before ending.
