I'm just curious how many people I know will be at The 9th International Conference on Bisexuality, Gender, and Sexual Diversity. I've learned that a couple I know from Bennington VT will be coming up for it (and they're gonna stay with me Sunday night! Yay!)

I'm guessing at least two ([livejournal.com profile] metalana and [livejournal.com profile] epi_lj, based on Alana's last post about it?) But... there could be more. Heck, if I didn't have stuff happening both Thursday and Friday of that week, I might go down for some of it too. (Saturday's free though; Alana, is that when you're having your party maybe? Hm...)

OK, I really need to pack.

I like travel, hate prepping for it. (even with the efficiencies I learned from dan...)

I considered attending 9icb, but the cost-benefit ratio didn't work out. Not that 9icb isn't worthwhile to attend as much as that I'm making far too little in my summer job to be going to conferences. :)

We know a number of people who'll be going, as [livejournal.com profile] blackorchid1 is the head organiser. Also, [livejournal.com profile] abigor and [livejournal.com profile] grrlgoddess, among others, are part of the committee.

I haven't yet committed to holding a room party at 9icb, but it's likely to happen late on the Friday night if it happens.

Apparently there are lots of people coming to 9icb and you might know some of them. They know a good party when they see one. Or maybe they want to go to seminars about gender politics. I'll be facilitating a discussion on lesbians & gays coming out "backwards", as bisexual.

Hey, I think there's a non-zero chance Sadelle and Ann will come to your discussion, since that's an issue that we've talked about. (What to do if you're still friends with your exes, but other gay people seem to have a problem with that?...)

Hey, that's cool! Don't forget that you don't have a guest bed...

Don't forget that you don't have a guest bed...

Yup. ...but they come well-prepared with an inflatable of their own. :)

I actually don't currently have a membership for it. I sort of waffled for a long time. I've been kind of nonplussed and feeling conflicted about a whole bundle of issues regarding gender, orientation and a number of other related topics lately. Maybe that's exactly why I *should* go, but....

(And of course, it's at the expensive rate now.)

Well, that and in light of recent edginess and panic attacks and other things, it wasn't feeling like a great "safe space" to me. :/

Yeah, that all makes sense...

If I were about ten years younger, I might have been political enough to want to go. Though, it feels odd to gradually feel less and less 'queer' in my daily life.

I do take part in a somewhat queer group, Friends for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Concerns, though that's starting to feel a bit mainstream as well. It's still sort of complicated though.

So, yeah, I might know where you're coming from. :)
