New Office
Monday, 27 November 2006 04:33 pmThings are looking OK. I like my office. It's in a quiet wing, probably one of the toughest areas of this building to get to if you don't know your way.
The window faces an alley that goes between M-lot and campus. I can't quite see the Student Life Centre volleyball courts, though.
I'm going through a bit of disorientation this afternoon, as nothing's where it's supposed to be, and I need to get all my office junk back from home. Also, windows desktop frustration: none of my linux shortcuts work. No multiple desktops! No klipper multiple-paste buffers! No cygwin shell yet. Sigh.

Date: Tuesday, 28 November 2006 01:21 am (UTC)I'm trying mightily (and mostly succeeding) to restrain sniggering at the Windows desktop that's plain behind you though.
Don't suppose you could whine them into giving you a vmware license?
Nice LCD though, widescreen helps a bit to make up for lack of multiple desktops.
I'm positive there's got to be freeware multiple desktop stuff for Windows if you can't trick them into letting you run Linux though.
(Don't forget to use mirror for cygwin! :) )

I'm not going to be stressed about vmware. Yet. Maybe in a few weeks.
And then there's my top-s33krit plan to get them to give me a linux dev machine, for running an up-to-date RT; then extending that to mail, and so on.
I like the monitor. It's 1600 wide, but not teensy text.

Date: Tuesday, 28 November 2006 01:53 am (UTC)Other than the Windoze nightmare, the job sounds cool! I like the soothing color on the wall of the office. Get noise-cancelling headphones (or play music from those speakers) to drown out the noise.
I'm psyched for you!

I'll post pictures Monday or so. :)
