Last night d. made nutmeg ice cream.

I suggested, after his post this evening about profiteroles, that the two would probably go well together.

No sooner did I leave to take a movie back to the video store, he has whipped up a batch. And yes, they went together quite nicely, with cocoa, chocolate sauce, and a bit of nutmeg on top.

/me emails matt some profiteroles

I think d's got a thread talking about how easy they are to make. It honestly took him 6 minutes to mix the creampuff stuff, and a few more to spoon them onto a cookie-sheet. Then 15 min. to cook.

...then 5 min for me to clean the pots, with no complaints. :)

They really are amazingly easy.

Cream puffs are just water with butter and a little sugar, heated until the butter melts. Add flour, beat it until it forms a ball, and then beat eggs into it. Pipe (or use a spoon) to drop onto a cookie sheet. Cook 20 minutes at 425 degrees. Turn off oven, slash open the puffs, return to oven for 5 minutes. Fill. Eat.

A-ha, your recipe sounds even easier than the one in the Joy of Cooking -- I'll definitely give it a try one of these days.

Ah, not in my home. I put all the pots and pans in the dishwasher. There are very few things I own that can't be machine washed and need to be hand washed, I try to make a point of not buying stuff that has not been made to we used in the 21st century... ;-)

Unless you mean it took you 5 minutes to put things in the dishwasher. If you are hand washing stuff, I need to recruit you to the joys of using the dishwasher, including the fact that for the vast majority of people it's more energy efficient and less demanding of the environment to use a dishwasher. In fact, if I recruit just 10 more people, I will get an Advantium oven... ;-)

Basically everything but pots and pans made by Calphalon go in the dishwasher. Those have a ten-year warranty which goes poof if they are dishwashed. Since they're really great pots, I'm willing to risk dishpan hands to keep the principal cook happy. :)

nice

I badly miss being in a situation where I can secretly make desserts for my SO when she slips out to the bank. I used to make rice pudding with raisins, though. Rice pudding is delicious, but entirely unsexy, especially next to profiterols.

But I did also use nutmeg. So there.
